Going Coastal

Hello fellow friends! Its been a long time since Ive written anything and no its not because I forgot but mostly because of circumstances.

Since our last post I have been commuting twice a week to Kyoto for work – due to … well… humans. Anywhoooo lets not dwell on poor life choices regarding office work and instead focus on the awesomeness of traveling!

We have had limited opportunity to explore outside of Kyoto Prefecture and its coastline however thats not really bothered Sas at all because as long as he is able to go the beach and run free he’s a happy camper. No matter the weather.

Seriously. No. Matter. the. Weather!!

Happy Camper

We repeatedly return to one of the local beaches mostly because of time and limited finances to explore elsewhere but ultimately because Sas can relax. He knows the beach well, can safely explore lots of new smells and basically run off with me trailing behind. Little terror has caused one too many trips where I have the full spa experience of a beach facial and arms yanked out of my sockets. So. I learned to let go – metaphorically and literally.

The result has been a stronger bond and Id say respect (from both of us) but lets face it, Sas has a cheekiness streak a mile long and if you’ve ever seen the reels I post on Instagram – you’ll know what Im talking about. Terror that he is.

But every now and then he absolutely surprises me and Im left standing with my jaw on the floor needing to be picked up. A few days ago we were with a friend, eating lunch outside – camping style at the beach; afterwards we were clearing up with Sas safely tied to a tree with enough shade, water and food and with plenty (and I mean PLENTY!!) of space to run around.

Our friend and I were walking back from the car to collect Sas and his things, when a Japanese couple who were walking along the prominade stopped and were watching Sas, who was looking out for me and our friend. To give the couple credit (our friend and I were watching this unfold at a short distance) not once did the couple approach Sas but they did call to him which he resolutely ignored.

As soon as the couple saw us walking towards us, they asked if Sas was ok to pet and our friend firmly rebuffed the gesture on our behalf, which was extremely thoughtful. I opened my arms to greet Sas and he came running towards me looking for hugs and kisses which he obviously got. He was such an amazing boy.

The saying that Japanese breeds of dogs are indifferent to people who are not their humans is 100% true. I can confirm it. He is just like me!

Once apologies were made on Sas being indifferent we untied him and collected his things. To my surprise he followed our friend all the way back to the car – because she was the one with the food I guess?! (cheeky sod that Sas is – ditching me for food!). Either way it was pleasant and wonderful to see him walking with another human that wasn’t me.

I managed to dry Sas off with out him escaping back down to the beach and we all headed out away from the beach and went on a short drive out around the local mountain range.

Of which … another pleasant surprise was had. Which we will save for next time!
